Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital Brings New Cancer Treatment to Southeast Texas
Offers New Hope for Recurrent Prostate Cancer
Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital is the first in Southeast Texas to offer patients a minimally invasive treatment for freezing and destroying prostate cancer. “SeedNetTM cryotherapy gives our patients access to one of the most advanced treatments for prostate cancer,” said Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital’s CEO David Parmer, “The therapy provides a dramatic improvement in patient care and quality of life for men with this life-threatening disease.”
Studies show that 50,000 men per year experience a recurrence of prostate cancer after primary treatment. Freezing the prostate with cyrosurgery is the most feasible option if cancer recurs locally due to radiation or other treatment failures. It is also an effective option for patients, who because of age or other health issues, can not or do not wish to undergo surgical removal of the diseased prostate gland.
At Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, Board Certified Urologist Dr. George Hoffman, along with a specially trained cyrosurgery team, will perform the procedure that safely freezes and eliminates the diseased prostate while avoiding damage to surrounding healthy tissue. The procedure can be completed in less than two hours. Prostate Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among men. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 232,090 new cases of prostate cancer in the United States in 2005. About 30,350 men will die of this disease. However, with early intervention and appropriate treatment, the risk of dying from prostate cancer can be greatly reduced.
